Panda Express is the largest Asian dining restaurant concept in the United States and one of the most recognizable American Chinese restaurant brands. The company was founded in 1983 by Andrew and Peggy Cherng, who opened the first Panda Express restaurant at the Glendale Galleria in Glendale, California.
The history of Panda Restaurant Group began earlier, in 1973, when Andrew Cherng and his father, Master Chef Ming-Tsai Cherng, opened the first Panda Inn restaurant in Pasadena, California. Ten years later, Andrew and Peggy developed Panda Express as a faster, more accessible version of the dining concept.
