Security Service Federal Credit Union
Security Service Federal Credit Union, commonly abbreviated as SSFCU or Security Service, is a federally chartered, member-owned financial cooperative headquartered in San Antonio, Texas. It provides checking and savings accounts, certificates, credit cards, auto and personal loans, mortgages, home-equity products, insurance, investment services, commercial banking, digital banking, and other financial services to eligible members.
The credit union was established in 1956 as the United States Air Force Security Service Federal Credit Union at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio. It opened with only eight members and $25 in deposits. The organization was created as a not-for-profit cooperative serving personnel and families connected with the U.S. Air Force Security Service Command, before gradually expanding its membership and geographic footprint. Its name was shortened to Security Service Federal Credit Union in 1968.
Security Service has since developed into one of the largest credit unions in the United States. Current regulatory data for June 30, 2026 shows approximately $14.36 billion in assets, 721,020 members, 71 offices, and 2,025 full- and part-time employees. Security Service operates primarily in Texas, Colorado, and Utah and remains a federally insured, member-owned credit union rather than a shareholder-owned commercial bank.

The best starting point for most member questions is 1-888-415-7878. Current live-service hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM Central Time and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Members should have their account information, identification details, transaction date, loan or card information, and any existing case number ready before calling. Never provide a one-time passcode to an unexpected caller, because Security Service specifically warns that scammers may spoof its caller ID.
For technical issues with Online Banking, Mobile Banking, or Bill Pay, calling 1-800-229-0158 is more efficient than starting with general support. Credit-card problems can use 1-800-725-5411, loan inquiries 1-800-880-8212, and members needing fraud assistance should immediately use the main 1-888-415-7878 line. Routing the call directly to the relevant department can reduce transfers and make it easier for the representative to access the correct account system.
Members can also log in to Online Banking and send a secure message, which is useful for account-specific questions that require written documentation. For matters involving documents, disputes, payoff requests, or account servicing, Security Service also maintains a member forms library that can be used instead of relying only on phone support.
Complaints may involve checking or savings accounts, unauthorized transactions, credit cards, loans, mortgage servicing, insurance, fees, digital banking, fraud handling, branch service, or other member experiences. Before escalating, collect statements, transaction records, account numbers, loan documents, correspondence, screenshots, and any previous case numbers.
Call 1-888-415-7878 and clearly explain the complaint. Provide the transaction date, account or loan type, amount involved, and what resolution you are seeking. Ask the representative to document the matter and provide a case or reference number when available. Keep detailed notes of the representative’s name, call date, and any commitments made.
Use the specialized department when the issue involves a particular product. Credit-card matters can go to 1-800-725-5411, digital-banking problems to 1-800-229-0158, loan matters to 1-800-880-8212, insurance matters to the appropriate insurance line, and fraud concerns to 1-888-415-7878. This helps ensure that the complaint reaches staff with access to the relevant servicing system.
If the first representative cannot resolve the issue, ask for a supervisor, department manager, or formal escalation. Explain what has already been discussed, provide the existing case number, and summarize why the proposed resolution is insufficient. Keep the request factual and focused on the account records, contractual terms, disputed transaction, or servicing issue.
Log in to Security Service Online Banking and send a secure message for a documented written complaint. Include the relevant account or loan, transaction dates, disputed amount, prior call details, and the resolution requested. Secure messaging is preferable to ordinary email for sensitive financial information because Security Service specifically provides it through authenticated Online Banking.
For a serious unresolved matter, written correspondence can be sent to
Security Service Federal Credit Union
15000 IH 10 West
San Antonio, TX 78249
Include copies of supporting documents rather than originals and clearly identify any case numbers or earlier responses.
If the complaint concerns an unauthorized card transaction, loan servicing issue, credit-reporting error, mortgage matter, or other regulated financial dispute, use the specific dispute form or servicing process applicable to that product. Security Service’s Member Forms library includes forms for transaction disputes and other account-service requests. Written documentation is particularly important for disputes governed by federal error-resolution deadlines.
Security Service is a federally chartered credit union, so unresolved consumer complaints may be submitted to the National Credit Union Administration Consumer Assistance Center. The NCUA provides consumer assistance at 800-755-1030 and accepts complaints through its Consumer Assistance Center.
Depending on the product, consumers may also use the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau complaint system, particularly for issues involving mortgages, credit cards, consumer loans, checking accounts, debt collection, or other covered financial products. State consumer-protection authorities may also be relevant depending on the complaint.
If internal escalation and regulatory channels do not resolve a substantial dispute, review the account agreement, loan contract, cardmember agreement, or other applicable terms to determine whether arbitration, litigation, mediation, or another dispute-resolution process applies. For significant losses, foreclosure concerns, identity theft, or complex contractual disputes, consider consulting a qualified attorney before missing any legal deadline.
