United Wholesale Mortgage
United Wholesale Mortgage
United Wholesale Mortgage, commonly called UWM, is a major U.S. residential mortgage lender headquartered in Pontiac, Michigan. Unlike retail mortgage companies that primarily originate loans directly through their own loan officers, UWM focuses on the wholesale mortgage channel, working with independent mortgage brokers who help borrowers select and close home loans. UWM originates conventional, government-backed, jumbo, home-equity, non-QM, and specialized mortgage products across all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
The company has grown into the largest overall mortgage lender in the United States while maintaining its position as the country’s leading wholesale lender. UWM reported $163.4 billion in total loan origination volume during 2025, and second-quarter 2026 origination volume reached $39.7 billion. Its business now combines mortgage origination, servicing, broker technology, marketing tools, and a growing closed-loop housing-finance strategy.
United Wholesale Mortgage, LLC is controlled through publicly traded UWM Holdings Corporation, whose Class A shares trade on the NYSE under UWMC. Mat Ishbia remains Chairman, President and CEO. The company also received a major $2.05 billion strategic capital investment in 2026 involving Oaktree Capital Management and an Ishbia-family investment vehicle, while SFS Holdings remains the company’s largest shareholder.

Approximately 9,100 team members as of December 31, 2025, with substantially all based at UWM’s Pontiac corporate campus.
$163.4 billion.
UWM does not publish standard public walk-in hours for the Pontiac campus. Mortgage borrowers and brokers should contact the appropriate department before visiting.
UWM offers conventional mortgages for primary homes, second homes, and investment properties. Current products support purchases, rate-and-term refinances, and eligible cash-out refinances, with options including conforming and high-balance loans.
UWM offers FHA-insured mortgages through its independent broker network. These government-backed products can help borrowers who may benefit from more flexible down-payment or underwriting options than certain conventional programs.
UWM provides VA mortgages for eligible servicemembers, veterans, and qualifying borrowers. Current VA offerings include purchase and cash-out refinancing and can support loan amounts up to $4 million on selected programs.
UWM offers USDA-backed home loans for eligible borrowers and qualifying properties. USDA financing can provide affordable options for home purchases in eligible rural and suburban areas.
Jumbo loans are available for borrowers requiring financing above applicable conforming limits. Current UWM Jumbo Fixed programs can support loans up to $5 million, subject to credit, reserve, LTV, and other underwriting requirements.
UWM offers closed-end second mortgages that allow qualifying homeowners to access home equity without replacing their existing first mortgage. This can be useful when a borrower wants a fixed additional loan while retaining the terms of the original mortgage.
UWM offers HELOC products that allow eligible homeowners to access a revolving line based on available home equity. Terms, draw options, rates, and qualification requirements depend on the specific program.
UWM’s Bank Statement programs are designed primarily for qualifying self-employed borrowers whose income may be documented using bank statements rather than conventional income documentation. Current programs can support loans up to $3 million under specified underwriting rules.
Investor Flex products use debt-service coverage and property cash-flow considerations for qualifying investment-property borrowers. These loans can provide an alternative underwriting route for real-estate investors.
UWM offers specialized Doctor Loan options intended for qualifying medical professionals. Program requirements and eligible professions should be reviewed with an independent mortgage broker because terms can change.
Selected UWM programs support one-time-close new construction, helping qualifying borrowers combine construction and permanent mortgage financing within a streamlined loan structure.
UWM services a significant portfolio of home loans and provides payment, escrow, payoff, account-management, and loss-mitigation tools. Its online servicing portal can also support payoff requests and qualifying payment-assistance submissions.
BLINK+ combines point-of-sale, loan-origination, and customer-relationship-management capabilities for independent mortgage brokers. It is designed to help brokers manage borrower applications and lending workflows within one integrated platform.
Brand 360 provides marketing and customer-engagement tools to mortgage brokers. Current functionality includes lead alerts, borrower monitoring, credit-trigger tools, equity tracking, and integration with other UWM broker technology.
UWM supports independent mortgage brokers through training, underwriting resources, technology, marketing, pricing tools, and operational assistance. Recent additions include Loan Lab and Income Calculator tools designed to simplify broker workflows.

Existing borrowers whose mortgage is serviced by UWM should begin with the Customer Care Team at 888-896-9658. Have the loan number, property address, borrower name, recent statement, payment or escrow details, and any previous case numbers ready. For general company matters, the current corporate number is 800-981-8898.
Borrowers who obtained a new mortgage through UWM should remember that UWM operates through the wholesale channel. Questions about a mortgage application that has not yet closed may therefore be best addressed first to the independent mortgage broker or loan officer who originated the application. Existing servicing, payment, escrow, payoff, and loss-mitigation issues should instead go directly to the UWM servicing team.
If the issue concerns a servicing error, keep statements, payment confirmations, escrow analyses, tax or insurance records, and copies of earlier correspondence. For certain servicing disputes, sending a formal written notice of error or request for information can provide stronger procedural protections than relying only on telephone calls.
Complaints can involve mortgage origination, servicing, escrow, payments, credit reporting, payoff figures, fees, loan modifications, foreclosure, privacy, or interactions with UWM employees. Prepare the loan number, property address, statements, payment records, closing documents, broker information, and previous case history before escalating.
For serviced loans, call 888-896-9658 and explain the problem. Ask the representative to document the complaint and provide a reference number if available. For a new loan still in origination, also notify the independent mortgage broker handling the application.
Direct servicing, escrow, payoff, hardship, or loss-mitigation issues to the appropriate servicing team. Corporate or privacy matters can be routed through 800-981-8898, while broker-originated loan issues should involve the broker and the appropriate UWM account executive.
If the first representative cannot resolve the matter, request escalation to a supervisor or servicing manager. Provide the earlier case number, a concise timeline, dollar amounts, dates, and copies of documents showing why you believe the account or loan was handled incorrectly.
For a servicing error or request for mortgage information, send a written notice to the specific address shown on your mortgage statement for notices of error and information requests. CFPB guidance notes that written mortgage-servicing disputes can carry formal response requirements that ordinary phone calls may not provide.
Serious unresolved complaints can also be sent to United Wholesale Mortgage, 585 South Boulevard E., Pontiac, MI 48341. Include copies of correspondence and clearly identify the loan number, property, dates, disputed amount or action, and resolution requested.
Privacy matters can be directed to UWM’s Consumer Advocate Team through 800-981-8898 or written correspondence at the Pontiac headquarters. UWM’s current privacy policy specifically identifies the Consumer Advocate Team for formal consumer privacy requests.
Mortgage borrowers can submit complaints to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The CFPB accepts mortgage complaints online and by phone at 855-411-CFPB (2372) and forwards complaints to companies for response. State mortgage regulators may also have jurisdiction depending on the loan and complaint.
Borrowers facing payment difficulty or foreclosure can also consult a HUD-approved housing counselor for independent assistance. The CFPB identifies HUD-approved counseling as a free resource for borrowers working through mortgage-servicing and foreclosure issues.
If the complaint involves foreclosure, substantial financial loss, alleged servicing violations, discrimination, or another unresolved legal issue, consult the applicable loan documents and consider obtaining legal advice. Formal rights can vary by mortgage type, state law, loan investor, federal servicing regulations, and any arbitration or dispute provisions that apply.
