MultiCare Health System, Inc.
MultiCare Health System, Inc.
MultiCare Health System is a nonprofit healthcare organization based in Tacoma, Washington, serving communities throughout the Pacific Northwest. Its network includes hospitals, primary care, specialty medicine, urgent care, emergency services, children’s healthcare, behavioral health, surgery, cancer care, cardiovascular services, women’s health, rehabilitation, virtual care and other clinical programs. MultiCare traces its history back more than 140 years and has grown from a Tacoma-based hospital organization into a large regional health system.
MultiCare currently operates 13 hospitals and more than 350 urgent-care and outpatient clinics across Washington. Its network includes Tacoma General Hospital, Allenmore Hospital, Auburn Medical Center, Good Samaritan Hospital, Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital, Covington Medical Center, Deaconess Hospital, Valley Hospital, Yakima Valley Memorial, Capital Medical Center, Navos Behavioral Health Hospital, Overlake Medical Center and other affiliated facilities. Current public reporting describes MultiCare as serving more than 2.6 million people and employing 30,000 team members.
As of October 2026, William “Bill” Robertson remains Chief Executive Officer, but MultiCare has announced that he will retire on December 31, 2026. Florence Chang, currently President, will become President and CEO effective January 1, 2027. That upcoming leadership transition is important because pages that are updated after January 1, 2027 should no longer describe Robertson as the current CEO.

MultiCare operates emergency departments at its hospitals for serious injuries, severe illness and other urgent medical conditions. Patients experiencing life-threatening emergencies should call 911 rather than attempting to resolve the matter through a corporate contact.
The system operates urgent-care clinics for illnesses and injuries that require prompt evaluation but generally do not need an emergency department. Current network reporting includes hundreds of urgent and outpatient sites.
MultiCare provides inpatient medical, surgical, critical-care and diagnostic services through 13 hospitals. These facilities serve communities in the Puget Sound, Inland Northwest and Central Washington regions.
Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital is MultiCare’s pediatric hospital and is the Puget Sound region’s dedicated children’s hospital. It provides pediatric specialty care, emergency care, surgery, trauma services and other services designed specifically for children.
MultiCare operates one of the Pacific Northwest’s largest behavioral-health care continuums, including Navos and Greater Lakes Mental Healthcare. Services can include crisis treatment, outpatient behavioral healthcare, substance-use support and inpatient treatment.
MultiCare provides oncology services across its regional network, including diagnosis, chemotherapy, infusion, radiation services, surgery and coordinated cancer treatment.

MultiCare provides obstetrics, gynecology, maternity services, women’s preventive health and high-risk pregnancy care. Services differ by hospital and clinic.
Beyond Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital, MultiCare provides pediatric primary care and specialty services throughout its broader medical network.

For a medical issue, appointment, prescription, hospital stay or provider concern, contact the specific MultiCare hospital, clinic or medical practice involved. Calling 253-403-1000 can provide central routing, but patients will generally receive faster assistance from the department that already has access to their chart, appointment information or care team.
For billing, insurance or financial-assistance questions, use 800-919-1936 and have the patient account number, date of service, insurance information and billing statement available. For a clinical complaint, ask for Patient & Family Relations or the patient-experience team at the facility where the care occurred.
For discrimination, privacy or compliance concerns, MultiCare provides a dedicated Integrity Line at 866-264-6121 and email at compliance@multicare.org. This is a more appropriate route than ordinary billing or appointment support for civil-rights or compliance issues.
MultiCare complaints may involve medical care, communication, billing, privacy, discrimination, hospital conditions, staff conduct, accessibility or another patient experience. Before escalating, gather the patient’s name, date of birth, location, dates of service, provider or department, billing records, insurance information and previous complaint details.
For billing and account issues, contact MultiCare’s billing service at 800-919-1936. For clinical concerns, call the hospital or clinic involved and ask for the appropriate patient-service or care-team contact. Explain the complaint calmly and provide enough information for the representative to locate the relevant account or medical encounter.
If the problem concerns medical treatment, nursing care, a physician, pharmacy, imaging, behavioral health or another specialized service, ask to speak with the department manager or clinical leader. Department-level review is often necessary because corporate staff may not have direct knowledge of the care episode.
If the first contact cannot resolve the concern, ask for Patient & Family Relations, a nurse manager, clinic manager or another appropriate supervisor. Provide a concise timeline and identify exactly what remains unresolved. For active inpatient concerns, requesting management review while the patient is still hospitalized can help address problems sooner.
Submit the complaint through MultiCare’s written patient-feedback or grievance process where available. Include patient identifiers, dates, facility, staff involved, prior contacts and the requested outcome. Written documentation is particularly important for serious quality-of-care or recurring service complaints.
For unresolved system-level concerns, correspondence can be sent to

or by mail to
P.O. Box 5299, Tacoma, WA 98415-0299.
For discrimination, civil-rights or compliance issues, contact MultiCare’s Privacy & Civil Rights Office using the Integrity Line at 866-264-6121 or compliance@multicare.org. This specialized process is more appropriate than ordinary Customer Service for complaints involving protected rights, accessibility or compliance.
Serious healthcare-quality complaints may be directed to the Washington State Department of Health or another regulator responsible for the facility or licensed professional. Complaints against individual doctors, nurses or other licensed professionals may fall under the appropriate professional board.
Insurance disputes may require escalation through the health insurer or Washington insurance regulator. Billing complaints can also involve financial-assistance reviews, payer appeals or consumer-protection agencies depending on the nature of the issue.
For serious unresolved matters involving substantial financial harm, medical injury or legal rights, patients may wish to seek independent legal advice. Preserve the medical record, bills, grievance responses, communications and other supporting documents before pursuing any formal legal remedy.
