Cinemark Holdings, Inc. is an American movie theatre chain that started operations in 1961 and since then it has operated theatres with hundreds of locations throughout the Americas and in Taiwan. One of the largest movie exhibitors in the US, Cinemark has more than 6,000 screens in over 550 theatres in the US and Latin America. The company prefers to build new theatres, reinvesting and acquiring existing theatres where the Cinemark theatre is the only game in town. As part of the Digital Cinema Distribution Coalition joint venture with certain exhibitors and distributors, Cinemark’s US theatres receive films and other media via satellite. The company generates the majority of its revenue domestically.
