Speedway is one of the largest convenience store and fuel station chains in the United States, with approximately 3,800 locations spanning 36 states — primarily across the Midwest, East Coast, and Southwestern regions — serving more than 2.4 million customers every day. Founded in 1959 as a single gas station in Dayton, Ohio, Speedway grew steadily under the ownership of Marathon Petroleum Corporation to become the nation’s second-largest company-owned and -operated convenience store chain, before Marathon completed the sale of Speedway to 7-Eleven, Inc. in May 2021 in a landmark $21 billion transaction.
