National Hockey League
About the National Hockey League
The National Hockey League, commonly known as the NHL, is the premier professional ice hockey league in North America. It currently consists of 32 Member Clubs competing across the United States and Canada for the Stanley Cup, one of professional sports’ oldest and most recognizable championship trophies.
The NHL was officially organized in Montréal on November 26, 1917, following the suspension of the National Hockey Association. The original group included the Montréal Canadiens, Montreal Wanderers, Ottawa Senators, Quebec Bulldogs, and later the Toronto Arenas, although Quebec did not compete during the League’s first season. The first NHL games were played on December 19, 1917.
Today, the NHL is a global sports and entertainment organization with approximately 1,500 employees across league offices in New York, Toronto, and Montréal. Gary Bettman remains Commissioner, while Ted Leonsis was unanimously elected Chairman of the NHL Board of Governors in September 2026, succeeding Jeremy Jacobs.

How to File a Complaint Against the National Hockey League
Complaints may involve NHL.com, league digital services, privacy, intellectual property, league administration, a broadcast or streaming issue, or another NHL-operated service. Complaints involving a specific team, ticket purchase, arena, or local club activity usually need to begin with that individual club rather than the NHL league office.
Step 1: Use the NHL Contact & Support Center
Start at https://www.nhl.com/info/contact-us/ and select the topic that most closely matches the complaint. Provide your full contact details, the service or issue involved, relevant dates, screenshots, transaction information, and a clear description of the requested resolution. The NHL states that its staff will respond to league-related inquiries submitted through this channel.
Step 2: Contact the NHL Team or Streaming Provider When Appropriate
If the problem relates to a club ticket account, charitable request, individual team website, or local team service, contact the specific NHL club directly. If the complaint involves streaming, the NHL directs users to providers such as ESPN+, Sportsnet+, DAZN, or other applicable rights holders because those services control their own accounts and technical support.
Step 3: Use the Appropriate Specialized NHL Contact
Privacy complaints can use the NHL Privacy Portal or privacy@nhl.com. Copyright and trademark matters should use the NHL contact form with the applicable intellectual-property subject. Specialized privacy correspondence can also be mailed to the Privacy Officer at One Manhattan West.
Step 4: Send Formal Written Correspondence to the NHL Legal Department
For a serious unresolved issue involving NHL-operated digital services, legal rights, or other formal matters, correspondence can be sent to:
NHL Enterprises, L.P.
Attn: Legal Department
One Manhattan West
395 Ninth Avenue
New York, NY 10001
The NHL’s Terms of Service specifically identify this address for complaints or claims related to its digital services.
Step 5: Use the Appropriate External Complaint Process if Necessary
If the matter remains unresolved, the correct external channel depends on the complaint. Privacy matters may involve the relevant state, federal, Canadian, or international privacy regulator. Payment disputes can involve the card issuer or payment platform, while consumer complaints can be submitted to an applicable consumer-protection agency. The NHL’s Terms specifically note that California consumers may contact the California Department of Consumer Affairs Complaint Assistance Unit at 800-952-5210 or 916-445-1254.
