How to File a Complaint Against Subaru of America

Step 1 — Contact the Subaru Retailer

For a complaint involving a specific dealership or retailer, first contact the retailer’s management and explain the issue.

Step 2 — Contact Subaru Customer Advocacy

If the issue is not resolved by the retailer, contact Subaru of America Customer Advocacy at 1-800-782-2783 (1-800-SUBARU3).

Step 3 — Provide Vehicle Information

Have the vehicle identification number (VIN), model, model year, mileage, retailer information, repair orders, and purchase information available.

Step 4 — Explain the Complaint Clearly

Describe what happened, when the issue occurred, what repairs or services were performed, and what resolution you are requesting.

Step 5 — Provide Supporting Documentation

Keep copies of purchase documents, repair orders, invoices, photographs, warranty documents, recall notices, emails, and other relevant records.

Step 6 — Request a Resolution

Clearly explain the resolution you are seeking and ask Subaru Customer Advocacy to document the complaint and provide any available reference information.

Step 7 — Follow Up With Subaru

If the issue remains unresolved, follow up with Customer Advocacy and reference your previous communication.

Step 8 — Escalate the Matter

If necessary, request escalation to the appropriate Subaru customer-relations or management team.

Step 9 — Contact the Appropriate Regulatory Agency

For serious unresolved vehicle-safety or automotive issues, customers may consider contacting the appropriate state or federal regulatory authority, including the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) when applicable.

Step 10 — Consider Further Legal or Regulatory Action
